Carol

Hold me close
Regale me with carol
Not just any story,
One filled with peril.

Well once in time
A hawk did perch
Upon the trees
Forever in search.

No overindulgence
No waste or want
No selfish trait
Nor a worthless flaunt.

The hawk is conscious
Of what it consumes
For that excess weight
Its body assumes.

The minute assumption
Not to be taken light
For the most difficult life
Is that of flight.

It seems simple
But truth be said
Hunting all day
Can fill one with dread.

In the far past
We lived as the hawk
But now we emulate
A drawl dull flock.

We've become discontented
With the way we had endured
We're always drawing
The hide before it's cured.
